Windermere & District Food Bank is in danger of running out of funds within the next 3 months. We have served the community of Bowness, Windermere, Ambleside and Kendal for the past 13 years helping individuals and families in crisis to get back on their own feet. This year has seen monetary donations fall off a cliff….. This is why we are urgently asking for money donations to help us to continue supporting around 25 households comprising typically 35 adults and 15 children a week with essential food parcels. We need funds in order to buy food from wholesalers because food donations simply do not keep pace with current demand.
The main objection we encounter is “Windermere is an affluent area and should not need a food bank”. This masks the truth that many clients are hard working families sometimes with 2 jobs but often on minimum wage in retail, tourism or hospitality and need to supplement their income with food parcels. Others are long term sick and find the benefits they receive inadequate to live off. Nobody chooses to use a food bank for the fun of it. We have a partnership with South Lakes Citizens Advice helping people to get back on their feet and work towards better long term outcomes, but we constantly get new referrals.
We understand everyone is facing the cost of living crisis currently but we would ask that if you are able to donate and support our work then please click on the red donate tab on the homepage or scan the QR code below.
With huge thanks from the Food Bank Team of Trustees and Volunteers.
