LOCAL BUSINESSMEN SUPPORT WINDERMERE FOODBANK WITH VAN DONATION

Through the generosity of two local businessmen, Windermere and District Food Bank has the use of a new van for a year. Alex Barton of Horizon Boat Sales and another anonymous donor have kindly funded the van lease, the insurance, the signage and vehicle tax for a year in order to enable the Foodbank to continue to collect donations and deliver parcels to local people in crisis.

Ian Winters, Team Leader at the Food Bank said “Previously volunteers have used their own vehicles for delivering to clients, but this is major step forward in helping us meet the rising demand for our service, enabling us to cover a large geographical area including Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside and Coniston. On average we help around 50 individuals a week and 2023/24 will see a significant uplift on the number of parcels we delivered in 2022/23. It’s thanks to generosity of Alex and his co donor that we can continue to meet this growing demand”.

Alex said “I believe that in times of difficulty, it is crucial for communities to come together and support the services that are vital for our well-being. By offering our assistance to the local food bank, we hope to alleviate some of the burden they are facing and contribute to the wellbeing of our community. It is through acts of kindness and solidarity that we can navigate these challenging times and emerge stronger than ever before.”
