About us

Windermere & District Foodbank supplies emergency food parcels to people in our community who are experiencing food poverty.

Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.

It was established in 2013 in the basement of the Methodist church at the top of Main Street, following a lot of hard work making the premises suitable, and officially opened by MP Tim Farron on the 8th June.

On average we support 26 households per week which is a total number of almost 50 people comprising 35 adults and 15 children. Demand for our service is increasing.

We provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to individuals and families.

Our services extend to the following areas: Windermere, Bowness, Staveley, Burnside, Ambleside, Grasmere, Hawkshead and Coniston.

We are part of a nationwide community of foodbanks, supported by Trussell, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
